Craft in the Office - Scenic Cards with Jill

Create scenic cards using the latest designs in stencils, oxides and stamps, one of which can be turned into a winter scene that will ideal if when framed, to be entered for the summer show in September as a winter scene in any medium.

Craft in the Office - Diamond Art

Ever fancied having a go at diamond Art? Been put off by not wanting the wall picture?

Come along to craft in the office and try Diamond Art Christmas Coasters. Ideal as a gift or to keep. Spaces limited and open to all.

£12 plus £5 materials members

£15 plus £5 materials non members

You receive a full kit of 8 coasters and everything you need to take away with you to finish at leisure, only bits you will need is a pair of scissors, paper clips or mini pegs to seal the bags and box to put your bits in.

Annual WI Show

2024 SHOW PRIZE & AWARDS CATEGORIES

 

GROUP WI COMPETITION

 

 Three homemade items suitable to be included in a charity shoe/gift box for a child/teenager Shoe box to be decorated and judged along with the items. Please include age of young person on the box. One of the items should provide warmth. With the makers’ permission the boxes (with additional items) could be sent to crisis areas later in the year.

 

 INDIVIDUAL CLASSES

1.  An item or a small set of items based on Manx Patchwork

This class is in memory of Pauline Mitchell, who did so much for the WI Show Committee. We are hoping to run a workshop on Manx Patchwork soon. This could be a gift for a friend or yourself.

 

2.  A decoration made from a book

This can be the whole book or pages from a book. This is our reusing challenge as it is becoming increasingly difficult to donate books

 

3.  Parkin.

Homemade.4 pieces of equal size presented on a plate & covered with clingfilm. A gift to share with friends.

 

4.  A Summer time photo to share

No larger than A3 mounted.

 

5.  A Wintertime inspired picture to give to a friend

Any media.

Public Affairs- Save Money on your Energy Bills

Angela will be giving a talk on ways to save money on your energy bills and what help is available from the Government.

She will have some items to help you achieve the savings and also looking to have a discussion with us on how we managed to save money and still keep our homes cosy in the days gone by.

Public Affairs Open Evening Manx Care Advice & Liaison Service

Come and meet our two guest speakers

Dawn Kinnish MLC- Chair of DOI Accessibility Steering Group improving the Island Accessibility

Sandra Keene and her volunteer colleagues to explain the benefits of the new Manx Care Advice and Liaison service MCALS

This is a free event but please register interest at the office for catering purposes

Dawn is very enthusiastic in her role as chair and is anxious to engage with as many residents as possible with the aim of identifying and improving the existing facilities for our less able residents. Please come along and be part of this much needed spotlight on the Island Accessibility agenda

Creative Craft Woodland Floor Canvas

Bring your own lunch, hot drink cakes and biscuits will be supplied.

The craft involves a plain canvas to be painted and stencilled, readymade (by Jill) resin moulds to paint so you create your own woodland floor theme.

Please book at the office with payment and contact details before 22nd June. Receipts will be given on the day.

No refunds will be given after the 28th June to ensure the Tutor is not out of pocket and has time to prepare all the kits, a refund for the materials will not be given if they have specifically ordered for the craft.

Our stand at the ACM 18 th March will have samples of Quilling, Forest Floor Canvas, Silk Painting Christmas Box Canvas , Christmas Cards

Choice of designs are a tree or lady, these will also be on display at the ACM and we need your choice if you are joining us for this craft.

Group WI Class- A Crown Presented on a 14” round board

Individual Classes

1) Doormat with a Coronation theme - Dimensions approx 28” x 14 “ using a hessian sack for backing

2) Short Poem - Coronation Theme 4-6 lines

3) Shortbread biscuits - Fit for a King

4) Marmalade - that Paddington Bear would enjoy- one jar any flavour or size 12oz to 1lb

5) Flower arrangement in a jug - no larger than 15” tall
